The Highly Flammable Nature of Magnesium
Though prized for its lightweight and machinable properties,
Magnesium has an inherent risk: its extreme
flammability. It can ignite startlingly when exposed to air,
especially under high temperatures or when ground
into fine particles. This spontaneous combustion potential poses
significant risks during machining processes,
as the metal can generate intense white flames that are difficult
to extinguish using conventional methods,
necessitating specialized safety precautions.
JYH Manufacturing Aerospace Area Product Capabilities
Our facility has CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, CNC
longitudinal lathes, slow-speed wire cutting machines
and so on,
providing much manufacturing flexibility. Our engineers select the
ideal equipment for an application based on the
geometry, material,
and volume of the part being machined to provide customers with
premium quality parts at the best possible price.
However, magnesium can be difficult to machine due to its tendency
to ignite or explode if proper precautions are not taken.
It provides a hazard for CNC machinists: the chips and dust from
machined magnesium are highly flammable.
We have rich experience in control it well.

Surface Finishes For CNC Machined Magnesium Parts
Sand or Bead Blasting
A process where abrasive materials are blasted onto the magnesium
part's surface to create a matte or textured finish. It's useful
for removing surface imperfections and preparing the part for other
finishes. | Plating
Electroplating is a process in which metal is deposited on a
surface. Electroplating is also crucial to modern technology.
Electroplating is used to decorate objects, inhibit corrosion,
improve weldability, etc. | Polishing
A process that smoothens the magnesium surface to give it a shiny,
mirror-like finish. It enhances the part's appearance and can also
improve its resistance to corrosion. |

CNC magnesium machining specializes in the production of
sophisticated components to meet the stringent
requirements of modern engineering projects. Multi-axis CNC
machines enhance this capability by machining
from different angles, ensuring microscopic accuracy and meeting
different project needs.

Our Advantages of Precision Machining
There are huge numbers of precision machining providers. Why should
you choose us? Here are the top 3 reasons:
1. Experience
Our engineers have built up rich, deep experience from many
previous projects, so they can handle complex and precision parts
in several industries without a problem.
2. Advanced Equipment
JYH CNC Precision machining has extensive in-house equipment for
both manufacturing and testing. Your parts will be manufactured and
inspected with our advanced in-house equipment, including Precision
CNC milling, CNC turning, EDM, Hexagon CMM, and Olympus XRF
analyzer.
3. Fast Turnaround
On average we return quotes within 24 hours, parts ship within 7
days or less, and we have a 99% on-time delivery and quality rate.
Quality Inspection
- In addition to our stringent in-process controls, all components
must pass a thorough final inspection.
we have a coordinate measuring machine, salt spray testing
machines, profile projectors and other precision
measuring devices, etc.
- Customers' CAD drawings can be directly imported in the coordinate
measuring machines (CMM) for a
direct comparison to the dimensions that are taken from the
physical part.
- All testing is conducted in a 20 degree Celsius climate-controlled
inspection room and the CMM is calibrated to
GB/T 16857.2-2006 (ISO10360-2:2001) standards. All components and
sub-assemblies are 100% inspected,
identified with a logo if required and a final inspection is
generated pertaining to all the critical dimensions.

How to safely machine magnesium?
Although it might sound daunting, it is perfectly safe to CNC
machine magnesium if the right precautions are taken.
Avoid tight clearance angles
Although magnesium can be machined at fast speeds without
compromising the quality of the part,
it is best to avoid tight clearance angles, because contact between
the tool and workpiece increases friction and cutting temperature.
Maintain proper tool condition
Sharp cutting tools can reduce the fire hazard of machining
magnesium.
Dull tools can rub and cause friction, which causes sparks and
builds up heat where the sensitive magnesium chips
are being created. Needless to say, sharp tools will also produce
better parts.
Most machinists use a carbide cutting tool with a large relief
angle for machining magnesium.
Avoid water-based coolant
Although coolants reduce machining temperatures, a water-based
coolant can actually increase the risk of a magnesium fire
as it will produce hydrogen gas.Avoid coolant altogether, or use a
light mineral oil in place of standard coolant. Compressed air
or argon gas can also be used to reduce temperatures without the
risk of exacerbating a potential fire.

FAQ:
1-Is magnesium hard to machine? - Drilling, milling, turning, and other processes are smoother when
using magnesium, and machining the material requires a
significantly lower cutting force and overall production time than
other metals.
|
2-Can you CNC magnesium? - Magnesium is a lightweight metal with high level of machining
ability that can be CNC machined to create parts with high strength
and excellent corrosion resistance. However, magnesium can be
difficult to machine due to its tendency to ignite or explode if
proper precautions are not taken
|
3-How many machines do you have? - We currently have more than 60 machines: roughly 40+ CNC mills and
