Rapid casting technology comes into being through the combination
of rapid prototyping technology and traditional casting technology.
Its primary principle is that the rapid prototyping technology is
used to directly or indirectly make casting investment pattern,
model, master pattern, mold (core or shell), etc. And then with the
help of traditional casting process, metal parts can be fabricated
The both advantages of rapid prototyping technology and casting
process can be fully displayed through the combination of the two.
The character of the former is rapid and inexpensive. It can
produce complex parts and pre-eliminate defects. The latter can
almost process any metal with low cost, without the limitation of
shape and size. But the cycle, from design to the fabrication of
model/mold and up to casting, is quite long. The combination of
these two can maximize favorable factors and minimize unfavorable
ones. The lengthy course (design, revise, redesign and the
pattern-making ) can be greatly simplified and shortened.
Rapid Investment Casting (RIC)
Investment casting is also called precision-investment casting or
dewaxing casting, which is an advanced prototyping process and is
able to produce precision complex parts very close to the final
shape. Casting can be used directly or used with minimum treatment.
The combination of investment casting and RP technology is called
Rapid Investment Casting.
The application of RP technology based on SLA in the investment
casting shall be such that:

RP technology combines with sand casting to bring about Rapid Sand
In this process, the resin model made with SLA technology is used
to replace wood model during the fabrication of sand model, core
